Exploring the relationships between interaction measures and learning outcomes through social network analysis: the mediating role of social presence

Abstract This research aimed to explore (1) the characteristics and patterns of student interactions on online discussion boards throughout a course using social network analysis (SNA) (2) mediating effect presence, as underlying mechanism, relationship between these students' learning outcomes. Eighty-four college students from four classes single responded an survey asking about their perceptions perceived achievement, satisfaction. Students’ threads were analyzed SNA. The results confirmed that presence mediates relationships interaction measures also found SNA can be useful tool monitor dynamic among support instructors implement immediate relevant instruction.
